To understand children’s speech and language development within Early Years and how practitioners can promote it.

  • To review how children’s speech, language and communication skills develop
  • To consider the role of the adult and develop a range of strategies which promote the development of speech, language and communication
  • To link to initiatives such as the Inclusion Development Programme (IDP), ECAT and the statutory framework of the EYFS
  • To understand the benefits of monitoring children’s progress with regard to their communication and language development
